Alberta's Social Studies curriculum supports students in their journey to become responsible citizens and leaders who will shape Canada's future. Students learn about Canadian and world history, geography, economics, other social sciences and the humanities.

The current social studies curriculum has been revised to reflect the needs of students in the 21st century and takes into consideration current recent research on teaching and learning for Social Studies. Critical Thinking and Inquiry based learning are an integral part of this curriculum.
