This is a message that I got from Yolanda.
I wanted to share with the ARPDC community the 30-2 project that I did
with my class. I also did this with the 20-2s. See, I really wanted to
do a project but I didn't want it to take a lot of time. I thought a week
would be sufficient. The issue is, I can't give a summative assessment to
students who work in groups, since I need to know how much they did
themselves. I also didn't want to have 30 different presentations, as
that would take a long time.
So I came up with the idea for a "Math in 60 seconds" video project, kind
of similar to the videos where someone will summarize a movie or a book in
60 seconds. Youtube "Forrest Gump in 60 seconds" to see what I mean.
I figured that we could play all 30 videos in one class and everyone would
be able to present that way. Since the video had to be short, they had to
really focus on a specific element that caught their interest and I
thought that 4 full 80 minute classes was enough time for them to complete
the project.
Anyways, I hope this helps out someone else who's thinking of doing a
project! I had a lot of really fantastic videos from my students, a
number of them really blew me out of the water!
