Some general thoughts about Difficulty

Well the first run through of the 20-2 program is just about over and I am struggling with some misgivings about the program design in conjunction with the 10-c program.  That is, I have way too many students in the 20-2 program that would be better suited to the -3 program.  I am not sure if this is simply a transitional adjustment as the new program rolls out or if streaming should not have been taken out of grade 10.

In any case, too many of my students are struggling with the material.  Am I an isolated case or are other people having a large number of students struggle?

You are not isolated.  However, I am finding that there is really no curriculum best suited for my students.  20-3 would be too easy for them, but 20-2 is too much of a challenge.

The 20-3 program is a lot more difficult than the old 24.  Are you teaching -3 at the moment?

In response to your email I am not presently teaching 20-3 but I have heard from other teachers that it is a very challenging course for our students when compared to the Math 24 course.

Chris I feel the same way. The content in Math 20-2 is very challenging.

I think educating the counsellors of the content so that they can inform students will help a bit.  I honestly had no clue how tough some of the material was until I taught it.
