Hello,

I am about to embark on Chapter 4, radicals, with the students. I am anticipating that this will be a more challenging chapter for my students and was wondering if anyone had any tips for how to approach the material? For example any resources that are good to bring in?

Yes I have heard from another teacher that this will be a tough one for students. I will be posting my Unit 4 Lessons and Notes this week. By Friday, I the entire unit will be posted.

Thanks Candace, these have been a big help. We are going slow and steady and so far they are doing ok.

Here is an interesting blog about why do we rationalize the denominator... seems to be more than one answer, and some interesting ones at that.

Interesting. I thought that the reason why we rationalized denominators was to make the operation of finding the lowest common denominator easier.

The absolute value workbook has a lot of great lessons and examples for the radicals unit up until near the end. The last two lessons require a working knowledge of quadratics...

Quadratics first, next year smile

Thanks, Candace. Is this based on the old Math 20 Applied curriculum?

Well I have posted my lessons. This is a tough one for students to understand. I will keep looking for more interactive activities to see if student can explore the math instead of just learn the rules.
